After you sign up with dreamhost hosting, you will receive the site configuration and account information email sent to your registration mailbox. If you are using existing domain name, and not registering a domain while signing up with dreamhost, then you will need to change the domain name server to point to dreamhost nameserver DNS. So that your website can run from dreamhost server.
Here is what in the setup email that i receive:
“If you are transfering an existing domain registration to DreamHost for hosting - or have not yet registered your domain and plan to do so with a registrar other than DreamHost - remember to use the following domain name server information when submitting your registration/transfer:”
- Dreamhost Primary name server: ns1.dreamhost.com 66.33.206.206
- Dreamhost Secondary name server: ns2.dreamhost.com 208.96.10.221
- Dreamhost Tertiary name server: ns3.dreamhost.com 66.33.216.216
